Trending Denim
For 2021
Denim is one of those things that never goes out of style. We see it as a staple in our wardrobes and we seem to find our favourite fits, preferred washes and go to brands that we stick closely to.
I know I'm most definitely guilty of sticking to what I know when it coms to denim but I also know that when I find a new cut I love or a piece I've lusted after to add to my closet, I often embrace the change so much I wear the pieces until they become a part of me. My bestie actually sent me a Devil Wears Prada meme last week of the "Are you wearing the..." scene changed to "The same outfit as yesterday? Yeh I am." because when I love something, I love it until it falls apart haha
Denim will always be a core piece in my wardrobe, both for casual and even more dressy occasions like this Valentino Beauty shoot, so when the time comes to explore those new iterations of the classic denim jean, then I'm all for experimenting even if my beloved skinny cut will always have my heart.
So with that in mind here are 5 of the hottest denim trends for 2021 and where to get your hands on the perfect pair for you.

Cropped
My favourite denim trend of the season has to be the cropped style we're currently seeing take retailers by storm. I'm already a fan of this cut and length in my favourite linen trousers and my faux leather Stella Mccartney beauties that I wear non stop, so seeing the denim takes on the trend makes it feel even more perfect for me. If you've ever wanted to try denim in a more smart casual style or even for a dinner date, then the cropped flood length cut is a fantastic trend to opt for. They brush the ankle to highlight killer heels, the slightly straighter leg feels made for a fitted blazer and shirt combo and you can double up the trends with a little distressing too.

Flared
Yes you read that right the flared jean is back with a bang! As someone in their early 30's who's seen trends her Mum used to wear come back around, there's something nostalgic about seeing trends I also used to wear make come backs too. Hopefully that's not a sign of getting old but I have to say I used to love the kick flare jean and until they came back into my life a couple of months, I forgot just how flattering the cut is too. Incredibly leg lengthening even when teamed with a flat sandal and a great trend option for more smart occasions, especially if the popular distressed trend isn't something you'd normally sway towards. For me it's the classic blue wash in this almost retro style jean that really makes waves - the ideal way to welcome it back into your closet.

White
You may have seen that last year the denim trends featured a multitude of coloured styling. From the autumnal tomato red shade we raved about to subtle spring ready blushes, even crisp apple greens that would be ideal to transition into 2021 to sunshine yellow that brought a little wow into your life. But this season although there's a whole host of beautiful trending shades to choose from elsewhere (you can check them all out in my latest trend blog post here) denim washes have taken a more classic route and gone crisp bright white this year. Colour trends always tend to be the easiest to indulge in as you can translate them any which way you please. Go for the cut and fit you love the best but so long as your wash is vibrant and white you've nailed it in one.

Distressed
I recently added the most comfortable distressed denim into my wardrobe and you may have noticed in the vlogs they've very much been my throw on pair of choice both in and out the house. There's something a little nostalgic once again about this particular trend and although maybe not as versatile as some of the others, they might be the easiest to style for more casual outings. Your favourite well worn band tee, the flannel shirt you've stolen from your other half, your go to Converse for all occasions and everything inbetween. Some of my favourite denim brands have perfected the trend this year including Paige, Mother and Frame - in my top 5 for sure!

Straight
Although as mentioned I'm a skinny jean lover through and through (sorry Gen Z!) I have found getting on board with the straight leg jean easier than I thought I would. Think your beloved skinnies with just a little more room for those days when we need it. They've actually been the style that this year, I've been opting for over the majority of my cuts. The trend was big a couple of years ago and so for most of us we might find we already have the look in our wardrobes. They team perfectly with a white tucked tee for a casual friend date, simply with a cami for a more summery feel and for cooler nights the cut is still fitted enough to style oh so well with the shacket trend we're still devouring for 2021.
