The Best Wide Leg
Trousers

My current trend obsession are wide leg trousers in every variation I can get my hands on. From high street to high end, from bright and bold through to wedding appropriate pastels and from belted paper bag waist to structured and chic, you'll find me adding far too many pairs to my wardrobe this Summer. I always try to keep on top of the latest trends between searching for ways to expand my own content/wardrobe but just because it's the trend of the season, doesn't always mean it's easy to wear - until now.

So here they are, my picks of the best wide leg trousers you can find right now and why I'm so excited by this easy-to-style trend.

The Look

The Trend

Wide leg trousers - not a new cut of clothing but one that hasn't been seen too frequently on your favourite bloggers, celebs and fashionistas for some time. I'm not talking the holiday-esque palazzo style trousers of 2012 though - the current reincarnation lends itself to a more dressed up style suitable for the office, dinner dates, dressy holidays and even as far as wedding guests depending on the colour palette. Yes, I still believe there aren't always rules you need to follow, and I for one am an advocate of dressing in whatever way makes you feel your most confident, but this is one trend I'm happy to add to my closet and follow along.

The Styling

When it comes to styling, as always it depends so much on - the occasion, the material, the length and the waist, but for me this trouser style lends its hand to a smart casual look. Take this outfit I'm wearing on the docks at Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The crisp, white, high neck top is super versatile and teamed with a high waist, wide leg trouser, it too lends itself to various occasions. Perfect for the office/meetings when a pair of heels are added, great for date night/dinner with friends when you throw a leather jacket over your shoulders and easy for a day shopping/sight seeing by swapping the shoes for flats and the handbag for a more casual cross body. Versatile is the name of the game when it comes to this trouser type but do stick to more fitted tops to balance out the heavy bottom of the trousers and if you're scared of the length? Then opt for a culotte style to stay on trend without feeling swamped by the extra material.

Why Wide-Leg?

This style is just so flattering. I love suiting and tailoring, so I was already half way to loving the trend when it came to the more formal options on the market, but I usually favour the ankle skimming, slim leg style you most often see in my wardrobe. Cue the initial purchase of this Me+Em pair and I was sold on the flattering cut, the floor grazing length and the high waisted rise. I felt as though I had found supermodel length legs, had added an hourglass waist and the addition of pockets is always a bonus for me no matter what the garment. Find the right length (full or culotte), the right waist (mid rise or high waist) and the right shade (pastel or bold) and you're certain to find a wide leg trouser that flatters your shape and makes you feel great.

I'd love to know if there are any trends you're loving in 2018 and why you love to wear them? And remember, the key to feeling your best is wearing what you love, even if it isn't 'on trend' - that's why style is so unique!
