Paris Fashion Week A/W 16
If you were following along on my snapchat (Inthefrow), or my Instagram, you may have seen that I jetted (well, railed) over to Paris to experience my first Paris Fashion Week this March. I am almost a little bit sad to say it was my first time seeing the sights and sounds of one of the most coveted fashion week cities, but unfortunately plans have never worked out in the past to get me over there sooner. But this time I was invited to attend with L’Oreal and we had a lot of exciting events on the itinerary.
So I thought, rather than show you each and every photo of what I got up to, what I ate and what I wore, I would select my very favourites and bring it to you in diary format. I love reading other bloggers short and snappy blog posts around their trips, so I wanted to keep this to the point. We went shopping, we went to a few shows, backstage and front of house, and even got to party with the L’Oreal spokesmodels at two private events. It was a bit of a whirlwind of aspirational living and it really increased my adoration for the L’Oreal brand. They truly are innovators and I was inspired every step of the trip.
This is how my PFW rolled out…
First stop, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, to drop our bags and head off to a day of Paris Fashion Week shows. This hotel is rather lovely, with a great breakfast selection, a gorgeous bar and lobby and the best Vegetarian Club Sandwich you have EVER eaten. Believe me. If you stay here, be sure to order it! It is layers of cucumber, roasted tomatoes, avocado and egg and I think I may have had three whilst I was there.
The rooms were beautiful and really comfortable, with everything you really need. The large illuminated bathroom mirrors were everything I needed and having cakes delivered for afternoon snacks is something I could easily get used to!
L’Oreal had left us an incredible treat in the hotel rooms. A box filled with their newest hero products and the gorgeous new Color Riche nude lip palette. And the L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Rose eye palette which has become a bit of favourite of mine now! They had also included the new L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation, which I believe launches very soon and has had so much incredible American press. I cannot wait to get trying it properly!
Then it was off to the first show, Maison Rabih Kayrouz. L’Oreal were the hair stylists for the show and created some amazing curled milk maid inspired buns that I definitely need to try for my holidays! I spent the whole show wondering how they had created the style, so I will definitely give it a whirl! Red lips were created with the L’Oreal Color Riche Red Lip Palette and the main product launch for L’Oreal over Paris Fashion Week! More about that later!
One of those moments. Happiness is infectious.
Next, the John Galliano show which I must admit, I was extremely excited about! Front row in a stunning venue and ready to watch a designer I have a lot of adoration for. The show was upbeat and lively, with a soundtrack that blended Scottish jig instrumental vibes with a sailor theme, if that makes any sense. But it suited the show perfectly with naval and military influences through the structure and shapes in the clothing and accessories. The hair was kept smoothed and low in a perfected ponytail with the use of the new L’Oreal Paris Studio Pro styling range. If you haven’t already, you might be interested to check this out. Yellow bottles that you cannot miss and an incredible price tag. They’re a massive favourite of mine now!
Back to the hotel to shower, change and get ready for a private dinner with the L’Oreal spokesmodels at Le Bain. I got to meet Barbara Palvin, who has always been my favourite model, as well as saying hey to Karlie Kloss, who really is the tallest, most beautiful lady! I adore working with the L’Oreal team, so we had so much fun chatting, eating and giggling over dinner.
Starting the following day off with a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, smashed avocado and brown toast, and can’t forget my iced vanilla latte. We then headed off to the Giambattista Valli show to see the going’s on behind the scenes. After spending five minutes staring at one girl surrounded by seven stylists and makeup artists, and wondering what the fuss was all about, I realised it was Gigi Hadid in the makeup chair. She was being pampered and polished, as the opening model for the show, using all L’Oreal Studio Pro Products, namely Boost it Lacquer.
The hair was super strong, powerful and perfected. A Belle du Jour wave to the hair at the back with a slicked, wet look front. A large tong created the large waves and it was set with L’Oreal Elnett for shine. The hair is brushed back from the parting with L’Oreal Boost It Lacquer used to set and hold the style. This is a strong and wet hairspray with heavy duty hold. Yet the hair is also combed through, as to show the ridges in the strands. As if the model has walked out of water and combed back their hair with a wide tooth comb. And when perfect, the hair is set again with the hairspray for ultimate hold.
The rest of the day was spent at leisure, shopping in Chanel, eating brunch in Angelina and prepping for an evening with the girls! More on my Paris recommendations here. I unfortunately did not take any photographs of my outfit, but I was wearing the cutest white blazer with a black bow to the collar for the night, from Zara! It literally looks like something from Chanel, so I had to pick it up when I saw it that day!
But the next day was the night for the L’Oreal Paris Red Obsessions Party! We had a few things on the agenda beforehand and then it was time for evening prep!
We were given the opportunity to go behind the scenes at a L’Oreal Paris photoshoot and to meet some of the Spokesmodels. This time we could say hello to Irina Shayk, Natasha Poly and Doutzen Kroes, all ladies that I admire, so it was such a funopportunity! I threw on my new favourite Kenzo Jacket and Valentino heels for the occasion and we headed off to the L’Oreal studios to catch a glimpse of the action!
It was time for the main event; the Red Obsession party in the centre of Paris. We were told to wear something red, and whilst I had searched high and low for a red dress, it just didn’t happen for me. So, I opted for a red bag and a red lip, courtesy of the gorgeous new L’Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette. With six shades of red, in varying light to deep tones, I wanted something with a rich, cherry tone. So I used the fifth shade in the palette to get the perfect red lip.
I was lucky enough to have a L’Oreal stylist come along to my hotel room to fix my hair for the event. With the dress I was wearing, I knew I wanted an up-do, and had something like this in mind. But with his vision, he made my hair look the best it ever has. Pulled tightly into a high pony tail with the fringe area added second and wrapped around the base of the ponytail before being pinned into place. The hair was waved, tousled and back combed to be big and fluffy and again pinned to the underneath of my hair for an almost unicorn hair finish. I was absolutely in love!
Somehow I didn’t manage to get any photo’s from inside the event. But lets just say it was red themed in a gorgeous, opulent location that was almost like a huge mansion. Bradley Cooper was there with Irina Shayk, Chris Brown was there with his crew and all of the L’Oreal Spokesmodels were there looking as radiant as ever. So it was one of those occasions where you wandered around and could have bumped into a celebrity at any turn. I just happily danced for most of the evening whilst sipping champagne and pinching myself at being invited to such a gorgeous, exclusive event in the heart of beautiful Paris. And luckily the next morning, I headed to breakfast feeling almost myself!
We re-fueled, packed quickly and headed back to the station. I still had the Paris feeling, so decided to keep my Valentino Rockstuds on for the return journey home, with two of my new favourite tailored garments. This blue and white striped Equipment shirt and the gorgeous Reiss blazer. This is also a glimpse of my new Chanel Wallet on Chain in Navy Herringbone, which I bought on our second day in Paris. If you’re going to buy Chanel, I recommend it be in Paris, because the experience is so special! This is a wonderful size for travel, enough to fit my passport, money and documentation for trips, and of course for date nights! Further than a phone and a lipstick, it doesn’t fit much else in, but I bought it because I wanted a petite bag and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it in the store.
Oh and big thankyou to my babe Suzie Hello October for these outfit shots!
Big thankyou’s to the L’Oreal Paris teams who made this an experience I will never forget!
