The Clinique Chubby Cheek and Lip Balms and the Smart Custom Serum

This is my first step into the world of chubby sticks. And, in fact, Clinique products. So what did I think of their new chubbies?

I’m going to start this post by saying, I did not photograph the custom serum enough, but you can just see it hiding sneekily in the background in some of those product shots. If you saw my latest August Favourites, you will have seen that I am absolutely in love with this product. In fact, I applied it right before writing this. An ultra refreshing, lightweight, creamy/gel serum, that leaves your face feeling like a babies bum cheek after application. The whole face just feels refreshed and smoother than you’ve ever felt it before. The idea behind the Smart Custom Serum is that it works to perfect your face. Addressing uneven skin tone, wrinkles and lines, adds radiance and firms the skin. The technology behind it has been five years in the making with patents behind the science, so I must say I’ve got some belief in this little beauty gem. You’re supposed to apply it twice daily, day and night to your face and neck, with maximum results being seen after 12 weeks of usage. However, that does mean around 3 tubes of this stuff, and its not cheap. Yet, I actually love it, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be repurchasing this for my night time routine. It’s that good. I’ll’ be writing an even fuller review of this in a few weeks I think.
Anyway, onto those bright chubby sticks. I’m definitely taken. The purple shade of the flowering freesia lip balm is so much more subtle than you’d ever imagine and wearing it alone over a nude lip just adds a hint of lilac pink. It’s moisturising and probably lasts around 2 hours before needing a top up, but I love the consistency and overall shade of this. See me wearing the balm on my lips above.
The cheek balms are gorgeous too, in a wider tube of product with a dewy, cream finish. There are four shades to choose from, the darker of the two here being Amp’d Up Apple and the peach being Robust Rhubard. These are definitely my two favourite shades from the four, as they are shades I always steer towards. In the images above, I am wearing Amp’d Up apple, dabbed onto my cheeks using my fingers, so that I could blend and pat the products onto the right areas. The finish is beautifully dewy and creamy, adding a healthy, natural flush to the cheeks. I’ve been thinking recently how much more natural I need to make my base, and I think that cream blushes are the way to go. Rather than always applying powders over more powders, a dab of a cream can really enhance your features and brighten up the cheeks. Amp’s up apple is that perfect natural rich rose flush with a deep peach undertone, that almost looks like a rose brown. So on the cheeks, you aren’t left with a vibrant and unrealistic pop of colour, but a natural and cheek enhancing shade. I love it. You can use your fingers to either apply the products to the cheeks and then use your ring fingers to blend it through. Or, apply the product onto your fingers first and then pat onto the cheeks. Alternatively, use a stipping brush, to brush over the product in the bullet and then brush onto the cheeks, or apply the product to your cheeks and then use the brush to blend. You just need to find the way that works best for you, just don’t be afraid of cream blushes, as they really make so much difference.
Have I swayed you towards any of these?
