Experiences to Remember: White Water Rafting

If I was to summarise my birthday this year in one word, does #bestoneyet count? Spending the day in Wales with my family, riding the rapids through the countryside was just better than all of my birthdays put together…

For as long as I can remember, my mum has spoken about white water rafting being top of her bucket list. She isn’t the sort of lady that would usually enjoy extreme sports or anything slightly out her comfort zone, but she had always raved about her lust for rafting. After I tried rafting for the first time last year in Vancouver, I was totally hooked. So exhilarating, hilarious and exciting, I wasn’t nervous, just hoping it would last longer and longer. So after I had tried it, I had to get my mum involved and let her try out the experience for herself. So when I missed her birthday due to being in America over June, and seeing as it was my birthday in July, I decided this was the time to book us into a rafting session. I headed to the Virgin Experience Days website and found our perfect rafting trip.

We headed to Bala in Wales, taking us around 2.5 hours from Wigan near Manchester, yet a quick picnic stop off on the way meant we could eat something before we hit the rapids. We got there for our timeslot at 3pm and proceeded to get into the water gear. A wet suit, wet suit booties, a helmet and a life jacket later, we were all ready to get going. Our fantastic instructor Josh (I think) was amazing, so so instructive, clear and helpful and was super fun on the raft. He taught us all of the rowing positions and what to do in an emergency so we were all super ready to go. Alex fell out after the tiniest bump in the boat and my mum fell out at a pretty rocky rapids area, but luckily Josh was able to drag her back in and we all got to use a bit of our newly learned skills. Quietly, I’m quite glad she did fall in, as its all part of the life experience and Im pretty sure she will never forget that now. But even though I didn’t fall in, Josh made sure we were all absolutely soaked to the bone after four sessions up and down the river. It was just so much fun, I could not recommend it anymore. Even when it started hammering it down with rain, it adds to the atmosphere and the fun on the river, as of course, you couldn’t really get any more wet at this point. I also strapped my Go Pro to my helmet to get some awesome shots, some of which you can see above, and I’m thinking of making a full video out of the clips for my Youtube channel. Do let me know if you’d like to see that!

This is recommended to anyone and everyone looking for an amazing way to spend their saturday or day off. Better than you can imagine!
