Dinner Dates at Pizza Express

Because eating Italian at home just isn’t anywhere near as fun…

I definitely shouldn’t have started writing this post directly after eating a really un-enticing salad, but hey, at least I can look at the pictures and remember how much better this evening was than the one I’m having. So I went along to Pizza Express a few weeks ago, like I do probably one a month to two months and figured Id write a bit of a review. Italian is my favourite type of food, so anywhere that can give me dough with toppings is a big thumbs up from me. But Pizza Express is different in that is always delivers awesome food at a really affordable price, plus you know exactly what you’re getting.

They recently updated their menu so I figured I’d give it a try! Opting for a dish of pitted olives to start and a glass of San Pellegrino orange juice, (because it is made by the Orange Gods), me and my date relaxed into the evening, our table for two and the pretty candles they had dotted around. For starters we opted to share a mozzarella tomato salad and a garlic bread with cheese. Because, frankly you cant have too much cheese. It came, perfectly cooked and beautifully arranged, so I’ll be honest that was gone within a matter of minutes.

Then came the mains. I oped for the Leggera Superfood Salad, with under 300 calories and loaded with the best parts of a healthy salad. Chicken, spinach, butternut squash, beetroot, avocado, mozzarella, pine nute, lentils, cucumber and basil with a balsamic syrup. Yet, it was yummy and massive! I actually had to leave about a quarter because I couldn’t quite fit it all in. But so lovely none the less. My (more greedy) other half decided to opt for the Pollo pesto, chicken and pasta with mushrooms, onions and a pesto sauce. Although it was on the tad oily side, it was gorgeous and I admit I had a few spoonfuls to satisfy my carb cravings.

For afters, again thinking of the calories, I headed towards the Raspberry sorbet whilst my date chose the Banoffee Pie. He had almost finished before he offered me a spoonful, but it was as you would expect. Creamy, toffee and banana and really delish. The raspberry sorbet was a nice change from heavy chocolate cake for me and a nicer light way to end the meal. Little bits of chocolate pieces throughout and a fresh sorbet.

We both left full, but not uncomfortably full, and really enjoyed the evening. With it literally being round the corner from where I live, its somewhere I visit often and will undoubtedly start visiting more.

Let me know if you decide to visit :)
